A man was stabbed to death Tuesday in Baldwin Park after attempting to detain a suspect who tried to flee the scene of a collision.
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded about 1:30 p.m. to the 3400 block of Cosbey Avenue, near the intersection of the San Gabriel River (605) and San Bernardino (10) freeways, on an initial report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian, according to Deputy David Yoo.
Deputies found a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy suffering non-life-threatening injuries at the scene, and they were taken to a hospital.
“During their investigation, (deputies) learned the suspect crashed his vehicle into an unoccupied parked vehicle and fled the hit-and-run scene on foot,” Yoo said. “Family members attempted to detain the suspect a short distance away, at which time the suspect stabbed the victim … in the upper torso. The suspect fled that location on foot but was eventually detained by El Monte police officers several blocks away.”
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
The name of the suspect arrested in the stabbing was not released.
