Pasadena City Council Monday approved a recommendation to increase Foothill Unity Center’s and Housing Works’ stipend, to help place those experiencing homelessness into shelter.

The Housing Department will pay Foothill Unity Center an additional $40,001 and Housing Works will see an increase of $31,778.67.

“Approval of the recommended actions will provide protective non-congregate shelter at motels for people experiencing homelessness in Pasadena who are identified as highly vulnerable to serious illness or death from the novel coronavirus, COVID-19,” a report by the Housing Department said.

The increases are covered by the Emergency Solutions Grant CARES (ESG-CV) funds approved by the City Council in 2020 and are included as revenue of the Housing Department’s Fiscal Year 2021 budget.
